Tony Igboabala

Tony is a professionally-registered electrical engineer specialised in telecommunication and information technology (IT) engineering. He has achieved extensive recognition as a telecommunication specialist in various projects in Africa. He has been involved with various telecommunication projects throughout South Africa and other African countries. He recently involved with MTN South Africa infrastructures master plan for the upgrade to 5G network. He is also involved with Telkom South Africa master plan for the implementation of 5G network throughout South Africa. His engineering and management experience covers design, planning, organizational management, contract and project management. He has strong project management skills and engineering background in radio-frequency (RF) engineering and infrastructures Advisory. He assists organisations in understanding, implementing and using challenging technology solutions to improve their productivity and competitive advantage.

Dr Frank’s research is inspired by the need to develop electrical wire to acts as a radiating antenna which takes through the RF signal for indoor environment and has been presented worldwide, in various internationally recognised conferences and journals. He is presently involved in research with the Center for Telecommunications (CfT), University of Johannesburg. He has authored/co-authored several peer-reviewed journals and conference papers. His research interests include emerging telecommunications engineering, power line communications, visible light communications, outdoor visible light channel, adaptive modulation technique, physical layer security, MIMO communication systems, signal constellation design, hybrid systems involving the radio frequency and the visible spectrum, trellis-coded modulations, and coding and forward error correction (FEC) for hybrid and cascaded systems.
